I am a lecturer at the University of Glasgow interested in memories of cinema-going in the Highlands and Islands. I am currently looking for information on the film adaptation of the Shetland Bus story called Suicide Mission released in 1954. The records of the Highlands and Islands Film Guild tell me that the film was shown in Orkney and Shetland to community audiences and was well received according to the Secretary of the Film Guild. I would be very keen to hear from anyone who remembers seeing the film when it came to Orkney and Shetland with the Rural Cinema Scheme and the Film Guild. It is clear to me that unlike the typical second world war film Suicide Mission shows the role of the islands in the conflict which I think is rare in films about the war.
I would be very grateful to hear from anyone who can remember this film.
Thank you!
